the CPDD coalition, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Interior, successfully arranged a series of in-depth training sessions on "Commune/Sangkat Social Services Budgeting and Expenditure"
On December 19, 2024, the CPDD coalition, in partnership with sub-grantees STAR Kampuchea and the Youth Council of Cambodia, successfully collaborated with the Siem Reap municipality to host a reflective workshop for the STA project, “Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Local Governance through Civic Engagement.” The workshop brought together a diverse group of 70 participants, including 38 women, representing local authorities, youth communities, LGBTQI+ groups, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
The primary purpose of the workshop was to provide a comprehensive review of the project's progress over the past year, including the outcomes achieved, the challenges faced, and the lessons learned. By reflecting on these key aspects, the event aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the project's impact on local governance and civic engagement. The discussions were focused on the successes and opportunities for improvement, providing valuable insights into how similar projects can be strengthened in the future.
One of the main objectives of the event was to develop a robust sustainability plan that would guide the continuation of the project's impact even after its official conclusion. This was achieved by engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including local authorities, community groups, and youth representatives, who were invited to share their thoughts, feedback, and suggestions for ensuring the sustainability of the project's results. The session allowed participants to contribute directly to the plan, ensuring that the future direction of the project would reflect the priorities and needs of the local communities it served.
The workshop also provided an opportunity to highlight the role of Yobol.org, a key platform supported by UNDP Cambodia and the Government of Japan, which has played an integral role in promoting civic engagement and transparency. The platform, designed to facilitate communication between local authorities and citizens, has significantly contributed to enhancing community participation in local governance and ensuring that feedback from citizens is effectively heard and acted upon. Participants were encouraged to continue engaging with Yobol.org as a tool for ongoing dialogue and civic action.
The gathering in Siem Reap was a vital step in fostering collaboration among local authorities, civil society organizations, and community groups, ensuring that the STA project’s legacy would continue to thrive beyond its completion. By working together, the attendees laid the groundwork for a more transparent, accountable, and participatory future in Siem Reap and other regions of Cambodia.
