CPDD and Action for Development Host Awareness Campaign on Climate Change Impacts in Kampong Thom

On December 26, 2024, the CPDD coalition, in collaboration with its partner organization Action for Development, organized an impactful awareness campaign in Stung Sen town, Kampong Thom province. The event, titled "Promoting Awareness and Response to the Impacts of Climate Change, and Seeking Support for Budget Allocations to Sub-national Administrations and Development Partners to Implement and Address Climate Change Issues Sustainably," brought together a wide range of stakeholders to address the urgent issue of climate change and its impact on local communities.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness of the environmental challenges faced by the region, particularly the need for increased financial support and effective planning to address climate change at the local level. The event emphasized the importance of budget allocations to sub-national administrations and development partners to enable them to implement strategies that mitigate the effects of climate change and promote sustainable development.

The event saw active participation from a broad spectrum of attendees, including representatives from the provincial government, relevant departments, and units throughout the province. Participants also included representatives from the project’s target cities and districts, partner civil society organizations, local community leaders, as well as teachers and students from Kampong Thom High School. With about 100 attendees in total, the event provided a platform for diverse voices to come together and engage in meaningful conversations about the local impact of climate change and how collective efforts can foster resilient and adaptive communities.

Throughout the campaign, there was a strong focus on fostering collaboration between government officials, civil society, and the community to identify practical solutions and advocate for necessary policy changes. By seeking support for budget allocations and emphasizing the importance of addressing climate change at all levels of governance, the event successfully highlighted the critical role of sustainable development practices in shaping the future of Kampong Thom province and beyond.

The awareness campaign marked a significant step in building local capacity to respond to climate change challenges, fostering a collective commitment to sustainable development, and ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders are heard in the fight against climate change.
